QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • NE CDL license
  • Passenger and school bus endorsement
  • Clean driving record
  • Previous experience as a bus driver (preferred)
  • Experience working with children (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of first aid procedures
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions & take initiative in performance of assigned tasks 

REPORTS TO:     Director of Transportation; Principals; Superintendent

 

 

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

 

A responsible and reliable School Bus Driver transports students to and from school following a scheduled route and ensuring their safety. The School Bus Driver's responsibilities include ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, observing safety and traffic rules, and maintaining order among students while they are on the bus.

 

A successful School Bus Driver enjoys working with children and strictly observes passenger transport regulations. Ultimately, a top-notch School Bus Driver is meticulous when it comes to vehicle inspections and regards passenger safety as the highest priority.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Reports to work at scheduled time, appropriately groomed.
  • Adjusts to work assignments and/or schedule changes.
  • Remains attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensures passenger safety.
  • Follows the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
  • Regularly checks vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
  • Monitors and reports fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.
  • Reports delays, accidents, and emergencies.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Inspects the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip.
  • Assists with the loading and unloading of the bus when required.
  • Communicates clearly and positively with students and all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with Principal, supervisors, students, parents, staff and public.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude toward work assignment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing or sitting could be required.
  • Accepts responsibility for the work assigned and accepts constructive criticism.
  • Enforces conduct and safety rules on the bus.
  • Maintains a clean vehicle.
